An expansion franchise, the club was founded in Washington, D.C. like most other teams and then later moved to Texas in 1972. The Rangers are one of the least successful teams in MLB history, being one of three teams to have never played in a World Series, having never won a league championship. They are also the only franchise to have never won a playoff series since the franchise's inception in 1961.
